Over the past few days, crypto markets have suffered a heavy drop, Bitcoin and Ethereum bleeding the least in comparison to the rest of the altcoins, and among the hardest hit sectors is AI Agents. The total market cap of these assets fell below $7 billion, marking a new all-time low. Despite a timid rebound in recent hours, the future remains uncertain: will a sustainable recovery be possible or will the downtrend continue?

Although the concept of AI Agents retains a certain appeal in the crypto world, scepticism about the tokens currently in circulation is growing. The key question is whether these projects will be able to remain relevant and attract new users in the long term.
At the same time, the general sentiment in the crypto market remains extremely negative, with a few exceptions such as Bitcoin ($BTC), Solana ($SOL) and some assets linked to the Trump administration or initiatives such as World Liberty Fi. AI Agents, on the other hand, are among the most penalised sectors, with no signs of optimism in the short to medium term.
Even the leading platforms in the sector are facing difficulties. Projects such as AI16Z (now elizaOS) or ARC are failing to reflect technological adoption in the price of their tokens. In particular, Virtuals has seen a drastic slowdown in the creation of new AI agents, with the daily number of new implementations falling to an all-time low. However, the full launch on Solana could offer an opportunity for recovery.

The AI Agents sector is emblematic of the current difficulties in crypto markets. Many projects, despite boasting innovative technologies, have recorded losses in excess of 50 per cent, a surprising figure in a context that is still referred to as a ‘bull market’.
Outside the crypto world, however, interest in AI continues to grow. Large technology companies, the so-called MAG7, have recently reported positive financial results, a sign that the AI sector is attracting investment and attention.
The real question on everyone’s mind is: will investors be willing to wait or will the AI Agents sector end up being sidelined?
