Strategy pushes STRC with more frequent dividends: why the Bitcoin-linked stock is attracting systematic traders and funds

STRC is experiencing its busiest trading week ever. Strategy wants to switch to bi-weekly dividends and make the stock more stable and attractive.

There is one detail that the market has caught before many crypto observers: not everyone wants exposure to Bitcoin by buying Bitcoin directly. A growing portion prefers to do so through hybrid instruments, with more tame returns, corporate structure and volatility. That’s exactly where STRC, one of Strategy’s preferred stocks, ended up at the centre of its busiest trading week ever as investors prepared for its mid-April ex-dividend date.

The mechanism is as simple and as old as Wall Street. In the days leading up to the ex-dividend date, many traders accumulate shares to cash in on the impending payout, only to lighten the position soon after the record date. This is the classic pattern of dividend capture, which produces volume and, above all, tactical price volatility. In the case of STRC, the pull factor is obvious: the stock pays an annualised dividend of 11.5 per cent, adjusted monthly to favour a price around the $100 nominal value. In a market where traditional fixed income continues to offer thinner or less sexy yields, a stock indirectly linked to Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin accumulation machine becomes a difficult lure to ignore.

The real news is that Strategy has decided to intervene at the very point that generates this spike in speculative attention. The company has proposed doubling the frequency of STRC payments from monthly to semi-monthly, without changing the overall annual return of 11.5%. If shareholders approve the change at the shareholders’ meeting scheduled for 8 June, the first record date of the new scheme will be 30 June, with the first payment expected on 15 July. The technical effect is less trivial than it seems: smaller and more frequent dividends mean less abrupt ex-dividend declines and a potentially smoother volatility profile.

This point matters a lot for a category of investors that has so far watched STRC with interest but also with caution: systematic and risk parity funds. If the stock becomes more predictable in mechanical dividend-related drawdowns, it can enter more easily into models that size positions according to their contribution to volatility. In other words, Strategy is not only making STRC more convenient for the coupon-loving retail; it is attempting to turn it into a more institutional, more liquid and more compatible vehicle for automated capital that buys not stories but statistical patterns.

In the meantime, the presence of STRK, STRD and STRF shows that Strategy is refining an entire alternative funding architecture to continue funding its model, which remains intimately tied to the fate of Bitcoin and, by reflection, to the sentiment that runs through the entire crypto sector, from Ethereum on down. Saylor’s bet is still the same, only packaged better: sell traditional financial instruments smart enough to please Wall Street and exposed enough to digital to keep feeding his accumulation machine. If it works, STRC will not be remembered as a high-yield preferred, but as the way classical finance started drinking Bitcoin without admitting it out loud.
