The cryptocurrency market is closely monitoring Bitcoin’s recent movements, which on Tuesday hovered around $84,000 – a significant figure that is approaching levels seen in previous cycles. According to the latest on-chain data, long-term holders are beginning to reduce their positions just as short-term traders’ unrealised profits are hitting their highest levels in the last twenty-one months. This movement highlights a shift in risk appetite and could herald an imminent market correction.

The behaviour of long-standing investors often serves as a leading indicator at turning points for Bitcoin and Ethereum. As long as new highs attract fresh liquidity, the trend remains robust, but profit-taking by so-called ‘veterans’ should not be underestimated. If we also consider the increase in exposure through derivatives and the recent deleveraging, a picture emerges in which volatility may take centre stage again in the coming weeks.

Several industry analysts point out that, despite the strength of the rally, sentiment is not unanimously bullish. Some observers suggest that the widespread optimism amongst retail traders could prove to be a trap, given that statistics show a much higher-than-average proportion of unrealised profits. On the other hand, comments from fund managers and institutional investors remain cautious; they are awaiting signs of stability before increasing their exposure, particularly to Ethereum, which remains stable but is tracking the movements of the market leader.

For those who follow the cryptocurrency ecosystem closely, these dynamics raise new questions about the best strategies during a phase of potential reversal. The risk of sharp corrections – particularly if triggered by substantial selling or coordinated profit-taking – remains very real, especially given the recent surge in derivatives trading and the rise in on-chain activity. More experienced investors are now monitoring the price clusters where large holders’ entry costs are concentrated, fearing that a breakout could accelerate the downturns in Ethereum and other related assets as well.

The mood amongst industry insiders is a mix of euphoria over the new highs and caution about what might follow. After all, when even long-term holders begin to let go, it is fair to ask whether the party is really set to continue or whether it is time to brace for the next bout of turbulence. Once again, it will be patience – rather than mere boldness – that distinguishes those who navigate the market successfully from those who chase the siren calls of the moment.
