Gala Music, a subsidiary of the web3 start-up Gala Games, is the platform where music can be rented, shared and listened to, based on what is called a Music Node.
‘Node’ is a term widely used in the crypto world and refers to devices that connect to the interface of a blockchain and contain all transactions that have been recorded on that network.
In this case, the devices connected to Gala Music’s network do not contain transactions but do contain music NFTs. Among the artists on the platform are some big names, such as the rock group Kings of Leon and the Mount Westmore rap crew consisting of Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, Too Short and E-40.
Returning to David Bowie, the release of the new version as Nft will offer fans a unique opportunity to own a piece of music history.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the record’s release, Larry Dvoskin, songwriter, composer and producer, has partnered with Gala Music to make this special edition of ‘Let’s Dance’ available exclusively as NFT within the David Bowie-inspired digital collection on the well-known blockchain platform. Dvoskin has already described the new track as a“more dreamy and electronic” version of the popular hit song. Gala Music will release 3,003 NFTs featuring Bowie-inspired artwork and provide access to a never-before-heard version of ‘Let’s Dance’, produced by Larry Dvoskin and David Bowie in 2002.
NFTs will be on sale on a ‘pay what you want’ basis, allowing buyers, and fans, to pay whatever amount they choose. Initial proceeds from the sale will go to MusiCares, a charity that provides health and human services to members of the music community.
The release of an unreleased track via NFT is an exciting development, underlining the developing relationship between music and blockchain technology. The beneficial element of the release carries even more significant weight.
It should be recalled that, – the David Bowie Estate – launched an NFT collection last September, winking at new technologies, called‘Bowie On The Blockchain‘ to honour the singer’s career and impact on music, gender roles, live performances and digital distribution.
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues!
