Over the past week, the cryptocurrency market has picked up momentum again, surprising even the most cautious analysts. The undisputed star has been Bitcoin, which recorded its biggest weekly gain in the last two years, fuelling a wave of optimism that has swept across the entire altcoin sector. In particular, XRP emerged as the driving force behind the recovery, alongside ZEC and LINK, all of which managed to post gains of over 30 per cent. This is not merely a technical rebound: the trend is taking place against a backdrop of growing institutional interest and changes to the global regulatory framework.
According to the latest data, Ethereum’s performance has remained solid, helping to bolster the general climate of confidence. The rally has also been supported by inflows into US bitcoin spot ETFs, which have resumed their upward trend after a period of stagnation, signalling a shift in momentum linked primarily to increased liquidity inflows. Market participants believe that Bitcoin’s breach of the $80,000 threshold has acted as a psychological catalyst, prompting many investors to review their asset allocation strategies. We are also seeing the emergence of new financial products linked to digital assets, as demonstrated by Grayscale’s latest move towards launching a Zcash ETF.
Reactions from industry insiders were not long in coming. Industry analysts emphasise that this rally is different from previous ones: “The return of retail demand is compounded by unprecedented institutional interest, ”notes Maxime Seiler of STS Digital, pointing out that a gap remains between prices and adoption by major players. Moreover, the upturn in trading volumes observed on major Asian platforms, such as Upbit in South Korea, confirms a trend towards the global expansion of the investor base. The performance of XRP, ZEC and LINK is seen as a sign of a rotation within the market, where capital is seeking new opportunities in the face of a Bitcoin that appears less volatile than in the past.
The effects of these movements are being felt amongst both retail investors and professional funds. Whilst the‘return-chasing’approach – the pursuit of high returns – still predominates in the retail sector, caution prevails at the institutional level, albeit with signs of growing commitment: this is demonstrated by the return of some large listed operators’ Bitcoin reserves above their average cost basis, such as Strategy, which is back in the spotlight after months of a pause in purchases. The community is now wondering what the next move will be, with new ETFs on the horizon and the acceleration of regulatory initiatives at an international level. Interest also remains high in the areas of security and innovation, with the growing adoption of AI in sectors most exposed to cyber risks.
In the cryptocurrency landscape, the contest between established giants and new outsiders has only just begun: those who merely watch the prices risk losing sight of the real driving force behind this change. It is a market capable of surprising and reinventing itself, where every week can mark the beginning of a new era – or the end of false certainties.
