According to a recent report published by Bernstein, one of the most influential names in financial analysis, Ethereum is at a crucial moment in its evolution. Analysts call it a ‘critical inflection point’, suggesting that the infrastructure built over the past two years is finally finding coherence, momentum and maturity. The narrative is no longer just centred on potential, but on concrete results: from the restaking boom with EigenLayer, to the rapid expansion of layer 2s like Arbitrum and Base, to the growing anticipation for a possible spot ETF, Ethereum seems poised for a new wave of institutional attention.
The change is not only technological, but strategic. Bernstein points out how the transition to proof-of-stake has led to a new class of economic actors within the ecosystem: validators, restakers and DePIN infrastructure are restructuring the value dynamics. The emergence of modular models, offering shared security and flexibility, reinforces Ethereum as the platform of choice for advanced decentralised applications. But perhaps most interestingly, this transformation comes at a time when Bitcoin has already fulfilled its role as a macro catalyst.
While Bitcoin has consolidated itself as a safe haven asset and store of value, with the arrival of spot ETFs in the United States and the renewed interest of pension funds and wealth managers, Ethereum is now bidding to be the computational layer for the entire new decentralised internet. And it does so no longer with futuristic promises, but with real metrics: fee revenues are growing, the active user base is steadily expanding, and the staking rate has surpassed 27 per cent of total supply, a sign of growing confidence in the protocol.
Bernstein, in his analysis, likens Ethereum’s current moment to that of a technology company that has finally produced its ‘killer app’. Not a single application, but a coherent set of tools enabling real adoption: efficient rollups, evolved ERC standards, and a more mature institutional narrative. This strategic positioning could lead Ethereum to significant revaluation, especially if the approval of a spot ETH ETF comes along, as some analysts expect in 2025.
Compared to the speculative cycle of 2021, the situation appears much more structured. Investors are looking for solid infrastructure, cash flow and economic sustainability. And it is in this context that Ethereum could shine, breaking away from ephemeral projects and gaining a stable place in institutional portfolios.
If Bitcoin is digital gold, Ethereum is the new Wall Street of the Web3. And in this new scenario, the rules of the game are changing faster than traditional finance is ready to accept.
